Gambling among underage youth is fast becoming a serious problem. PDHP's program focuses on educating youth, their parents and the schools about this concern and offers information and strategies to address this growing problem among our youth.
Drug & Alcohol Prevention
NYS survey statistics show that underage drinking , binge drinking, and prescription drug abuse continues to be a problem among our youth. Marijuana use has increased since the perception of risk has decreased. Experimentation can lead to addiction and it is important for parents and educators to have correct information and know the signs and symptoms.
PDHP offers short-term prevention counseling in the schools as well as assessments and referrals to community counseling centers . Our field offices offer family therapy on a sliding-scale fee. In the schools we also provide crisis response teams to go into the schools when the need arises to work with the students, faculties and parents.
Parenting & Teacher Resources
Parents and Teachers are our partners in prevention. Faculty presentations as well as parent education events are offered throughout the year. PDHP trains teachers in Group Facilitation Skills which prepares teachers to facilitate after-school discussion groups. We also offer parent- teen nights and family fun nights to parents.
